Affiliation Rights Explained
CertificatesIntroduction
OK here comes the vital bit of all Memberships with AUHS. Boring though it may be all members and prospective members need to know these rules. They have been set out in a way which hopefully means you can find the bit that interests you most quite easily by clicking on the bookmark links provided for your convenience above. For our Association to run smoothly and safely and be an enjoyable experience for all; it is important to accept that these are part and parcel of keeping AUHS together and to be seen to be a professional well run organisation which can be trusted and respected by all.
New applicants
New members applications can only be dealt with by the Membership Secretary (Address on Executive page), appliction forms available directly from this website simply click New Members at top of this page or by request from the Secretary. Membership runs from the date that the Membership Secretary receives the full payment. Yearly Fees for each type of members and rules are also listed on the New Members page.
Please remember that Membership of an affiliated Church or Group is not an automatic individual membership of the AUHS. Separate application must be made to the Membership Secretary for those wishing to be Members of AUHS.
Application forms are available for the following memberships:-
1) Ordinary Membership
2) Probationer Healer Membership
3) Full Healer Membership
4) Deacon
5) Deacon wishing to train as Minister
6) Church Affiliation
7) Association Badges etc.
Annual renewals fall due on the anniversary of the nearest quarter to the joining date. Quarterly dates are: 1st March, 1st June, 1st September, and 1st December. Membership expires at the end of the due calendar month. Members will only receive one renewal notification and if this has not been returned with reasonable time membership will be lapsed. Memberships which have lapsed for Healers and Probationers are no longer insured. If at some point you choose to cancel Membership; you must write in person with your request to the Membership Secretary.
Even though it is a very straight forward process, we would respectfully ask Memembers to think carefully before you decide to cancel Membership with AUHS. AUHS is also obliged to cancel all Certification (Any certificates should be returned to Membership Secretary along with your resignation letter). All insurances given as part of your membership will also be cancelled. Ministers will have forfeited their right to use the Association name or Charity Number and the same is the case for any other cancelled Memberships.
It can take years of precious work and dedication in cooperation with our Affiliated Churches to gain Certification with AUHS and the support of every individual member is valued greatly. Members who have cancelled do of course have the right to return to us and retrieve their previous status if they so wish; by agreement of all Executives under special circumstances only. However; if you still decide you must leave us; please write to the Membership Secretary as described above and your request will be honoured with a fond fairwell and grateful thanks for all your support in the past. Your Membership along with all privileges linking with your Membership will end as soon as the Membership Secretary has received your letter of resignation. Don't forget you must also cancel any "Standing Order" payments which you have with your bank as AUHS can't do this on your behalf.
Please remember that Membership of an affiliated Church or Group is not an individual automatic Membership of AUHS. Separate application must be made to the Membership Secretary for those wishing to be Members of AUHS. Cancellation of Membership with AUHS is not automaic cancellation with your individaul Church. AUHS do not intefere with Affiliated Church/Centre business.
Only Healer Leaders can train probationers on behalf of the AUHS. Affiliated churches are permitted a maximum of two healer leaders.
The AUHS formally recognises healer training given through SNU, Greater World, NFSH and some other AHA affiliated groups, and Healer Leaders can permit other full healers to oversee some parts of the training of probationers.
All training is based on the AHA training manual
Anyone wishing to train as an AUHS healer must join the Association before they take part in any way, in any healing session where a member of the public is present. Our insurance policy with AHA only covers people who are fully paid up probationary or full healer members of this Association. For this reason all probationers and full healers carry an ID card and a current membership card whenever they offer healing to the public.
All healers are required to abide by the rules laid out in the AHA Code of Conduct and Training Guide and are bound by the Hippocratic Oath.
A Probatinary Healer is someone who is a fully paid up member of the Association and is insured for healing ONLY if a "Healer Leader" is in the room overseeing their training (however a Healer Leader can permit an experienced full healer to oversee some parts of the training of probationers so long as the Full Healer is in the room to oversee their training.)
People who are "training" through their own church even if the church is Affiliated with AUHS; but have never paid a subscription fee for Protationary Membership with AUHS are NOT probationary healers of AUHS. They have not had their names added to the AHA policy. THEY ARE NOT INSURED EVEN IF A FULL HEALER IS OVERSEEING/GUIDING THEIR HEALING. Training takes a minimum of two years before a certificate can be applied for. Uninsured healing is not advisable within a church; any church allowing uninsured healing takes full responsibility for any risks involved since AUHS never intefere in the running of any of our churches.
All healers are required to abide by the rules laid out in the AHA Code of Conduct and Training Guide and are bound by the Hippocratic Oath.
The Association of Universal Healers & Spiritualists offers a number of certificates and awards to its members as follows:-
1) Church Affiliation Certificate
2) Diploma Certificate (For Mediumship-with the right to put the letters (Dip) after your name)
3) Full Healer Certificate
4) Ten year long service Award
Certificates normally are presented to members at the AGM in September and this is a special occasion. However; if a member is unable to be present at the AGM to receive their well earned certificate; it can be sent out by post.
All subscription charges are set by the FULL Membership at the AGM.
Affiliated centres pay their affiliation fees In December each year. This fee is set by the AGM includes an additional fee for any AUHS registered healer leader they have.
The Executive generally meets four times a year. (March, June, September and November). Any members or individuals wishing to attend should contact the membership secretary giving two weeks notice.
The AGM is held on a Saturday in September each year at a place chosen by the Executive and always include the full membership. This is part of an Anniversary Day of meetings and events to which members and non-members are invited.
The Association can assist in the settling of problems in affiliated Churches and Groups only if asked by the majority of the Committee.
Rules set out if you are thinking to becoming a member
Rules governing members
There are just ten rules that directly affect members. Before considering joining you should read them:
1) Individual members should not quote the Charity No. without the permission of either their association affiliated Church/Group, or of the Association itself. (If in doubt contact Rev. Stewart Robertson). When using the charity number, groups MUST state the following" Affiliated to Association of Universal Healers & Spiritualists, Charity Number 1014604". Failure to use the words "Affiliated to" could be a criminal offence.
22) Members should not canvass in a Church of any denomination, for others to join a development group, without the permission of the Church concerned.
3) Members should not give healing unless they hold a current healing certificate or, as a probationer are under the tuition and guidance of an approved full healer. Nor should they give healing in any Church/Centre without the permission of the committee/healer leader. Please note that the SNU have stated that ONLY SNU healers may practise in SNU Churches. Please do not infringe their rules.
4) Members should not interfere in the running of any Church/Group (AUHS or otherwise) without the agreement from those already running it or unless voted onto the committee of such a church/group.
5) Individual members and affiliated groups are reminded that they must do nothing to bring the AUHS or spiritualism into disrepute.
5a) Members and groups must do nothing to distress or alienate other spiritualist churches (AUHS or Non) and should strive to work in unity with them.
6) Members with complaints about their Church or Group MUST refer to the Committee/Trustees of their Church/Group NOT TO THE ASSOCIATION
7) Complaints about individual members should be referred to the Church/Group committee in the first instance and from there to the Complaints board of the Association, if necessary.
8) Complaints ABOUT the AUHS should be referred to the Complaints Minister.
9) All churches/Groups etc. are reminded that they must pay their annual affiliation on/by 1st January each year to continue to have the right to say they are affiliated to this charity.
10) Members are reminded
that they must renew within 28 days of the expiry of their membership otherwise
ALL certificates, diplomas and healing insurance will lapse without notice.
A Guide to help you produce a set of rules or a constitution.
A copy
of your church/group rules is required to be attached to your affiliation application
form.
Some churches and centres seem to have problems understanding
what rules they should have. To help you we are have compiled a list of questions
you should answer. If you do not currently have any written rules the answers
to these can be used to compile them. All affiliated groups must have a written
set of rules on file at AUHS head office and in their own paperwork.
Where
a church or group is run by an elected committee, one rule should show how many
members can be on it at any one time (minimum and maximum) and what guidelines
are in place on who can/can't stand for election.
1. Object: What is
the purpose of the centre/church? E.g. to further knowledge of spiritualism in
the local area or to offer healing to those who need it.
2.Who is in charge of the centre/church?
3. Is it an elected committee or designated trustees? If it is designated trustees then include the name of these trustees.
How long do they serve? In the case of an elected committee is it for one year or two years or more before re-election? In the case of trustees is it for a period of time or for life.
4. If trustees run the centre with no pre determined re-election or resignation date, what happens if they leave/pass in to spirit?
5. Who is responsible for the money taken in and for paying the bills?
6. Where will the money be kept/ i.e. building society current account, tin under
the bed? 7. What happens if they leave/pass in to spirit? 8. Who can
withdraw money? i.e. how many signatures and who? 9. What is the money to
be used for? 11. Who makes the decisions regarding the day
to day running of the centre? 12. Do you have a paying membership? 13.Do you have any sort of membership or congregation meeting to confer on the running
of the church? 14.If there is a disagreement who has the final say? ONE PERSON
ONLY! 15.How often do you meet? (Times, days) 16.Do you always meet in
the same place? 17.Who is responsible for investigating complaints? 18.Who is entitled to use the name of the centre, and therefore the AUHS affiliation
logo? Information for Affiliated
Groups Affiliated Churches and
groups are asked to adopt the Association of Universal Healers & Spiritualists
principles. To read our principles click here Fully paid up affiliated
groups may use the Association logo on their letter head as long as the word "affiliated"
is printed immediately underneath. The charity number cannot be shown on letterheads
and can only be included in advertising when shown as " member of Association
of Universal Healers & Spiritualists, Charity number 1014604". The
AUHS cannot interfere in the running of its churches, groups and healing centres
except to refuse affiliation or to expel it (and/or individual members) if it
is felt necessary. There is a standard disciplinary procedure in place should
these be necessary. The AUHS can refuse to renew the affiliation of any church
or group. Any group not paying affiliation
fees on time is automatically disaffiliated. Any
group wishing to disaffiliate can easily do so and there is no charge or penalty
to disaffiliate. Any group wishing to do so should contact the Association Secretary
by telephone in the first instance. Committee members of churches and groups
are decided under the rules of the individual church/group and are in no way decided
or influenced by the AUHS Any money
collected by the church/group from its members and congregation belongs SOLELY
to the church/group in questions. In line with our charity status and constitution
this money MUST be used for the furtherance of spiritualism, whether by covering
the cost of running the church/group or through relevant donations. The AUHS has
no claim on this money other than for the annual affiliation fees. However churches
are asked to encourage membership of the AUHS, as this is how we receive the funding
to continue our work. Many churches ask those sitting in development circle to
become members of the Association of Universal Healers & Spiritualists.
All affiliated groups are liable for an annual affiliation fee, due 1st January
each year, which includes free membership for the Church President if they are
not a registeered or probationary healer, as well as permitting the group to have
one AUHSregistered healer leader to train probationers . An additional amount
will be charged to groups which have more than oneHealer Leader registered. Maximum
of two healer leaders per church/group. Healer
and other membership subscriptions are the responsibility of the individual member,
although some churches choose to pay the subscriptions of their healers. Overseas
groups: We regret we can no longer accept affiliation from overseas groups.
Application and Rights Explained Applications
for Group Affiliation, as well as individual certificates and diplomas are considered
at the Executive meetings and AGM meetings only. Individual
Membership: Those
wishing to become ordinary members, healer members or probationer healers of the
AUHS need to complete the relevant individual membership form. See the Membership
page for full details. Healing Those
running HEALING GROUPS should be registered as Healer Members of this Association.
With the reminder that only those accepted as HEALER LEADERS by the Association
and holding this certificate can train and guide Probationers. Additionally groups
without a recognized Healer Leader cannot train AUHS Probationers but may find
an association leader elsewhere to do so. If THIS Healer Leader agrees, the Healing
Groups Full Healers can oversee SOME of the practical experience the Probationers
must gain. To have Probationary
Healers in your Group you will need to have a nominated Healer Leader. This person
MUST hold a current Association of Universal Healers & Spiritualists Full
Healer Certificate and have done so for the past year before they can apply for
this status. Churches and Groups wishing to take on probationary healers must
make sure they have a Healer Leader accepted by the AUHS first.
It is expected that Healer Leaders will encourage all trainee healers to take
out probationary status as soon as possible after the COMMENCEMENT of and theory
training and BEFORE they commence practical healing. Healer
membership can only run from the date the FULL payment is received regardless
of any previous attendance at training courses. ALL HEALERS (PROBATIONARY & CERTIFICATED)
ARE ONLY INSURED IF THEY ARE FULLY PAID UP MEMBERS OF THE ASSOCIATION AND CARRYING
THERE ID CARD AND MEMBERSHIP CARD WHENEVER GIVING HEALING.
10.Are there any other co-opted (not elected) helpers with specific
jobs to do? If so, who/what?
Individual members of any AUHS affiliated group are NOT automatically
individual members of the Association of Universal Healers & Spiritualists
and do not have voting rights. Likewise those who join the AUHS a member are not
automatically members of their own church. To have AUHS membership status, to
be able to vote on AUHS matters, or to stand on any AUHS committee/Executive they
must be members of the AUHS in their own right. They CAN however stand on their
church/group committee if agreed by the relevant group. They CAN attend and vote
as a representative of their church/group at Association AGMs.
